Along with a constant flow of visitors I dropped in to the Waterworks Museum at Sutton Poyntz for an exhibition of art by four talented local artists, Tony Heathershaw, Sara Knight, Elizabeth Morris and Caroline Nairn.
Tony pointed out that among his lovely watercolours was one of Weymouth harbour, with Rowella, E52, a blue fishing boat at its centre. Sadly Rowella will not be seen again in the harbour for the front page Echo for 21st May 2010 records her sinking off Lulworth Cove, a sad loss for the father and son owners. Amongst Tony’s other pictures was, appropriately, one of the lifeboat in Weymouth Bay.
Each artist demonstrated the variety of their work, and I particularly enjoyed Sara’s ‘Storm over Dorset’, Elizabeth’s ‘Rooster’, a monotype, and Caroline’s ‘Blue Poppy Seed Heads’. The exhibition really was a showcase for our local artistic talents in an atmospheric setting.
The Extra Bonus May draw of the St Andrew’s School 200 club took place in Miss Royle's year 2 class on Friday 13th May - obviously lucky for some! Isabelle Saunders drew the £150 prize for Mr Ian Jefferis, Courtney Lamont helped Mrs Mary Sevenoaks to £75, Abbie Woodland selected Mircea Bobora-David for the £50 prize and Rosie House picked Sarah Breaks number for the £20 prize.
All the money from the monthly draw goes towards facilities for the children, so contact Helen Webb at helencwebb@fsmail.net if you would like to help.
Not everyone in our local area is selling their house because lots of Goadsby’s boards are advertising the St Andrews School Summer Fayre on Saturday 11 June!
The Fayre is on between 1pm and 4pm, and will have everything a Summer Fayre should – lots of stalls and fun for all ages, plus, hopefully, good weather. Do support the PTA in their efforts for the pupils.
The following week the Four Halls Garden Party will take place on Saturday 18 June in the Rectory Garden, near the Scutt Hall, between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
This community event has things for all ages to watch and take part in right through the day, including magic for the kids, beer for the Dads, Pimms for the Mums and a variety of delicious food available for all.
This is the third such Garden Party, and is a great opportunity for the hall users in the area to display their talents, with face painting, Maypole dancing, singing and even, in the past, the flamenco (though I only watched this!).
Entry is £1.00 per adult and everyone one is welcome, so do go along and support the community and have a marvellous time into the bargain.
