Visitors take a tour of the mine
A PORTLAND mine is to welcome visitors to look around.
Jordan Mine, owned by Albion Stone, will be open to small groups of visitors on Saturday, June 18 from 8am to 1pm.
Guests will be shown round by Albion Stone’s mine manager, Mark Godden, and the assistant mine manager, Tony Booker.
They will be explaining why mining techniques are now preferred over quarrying, as well as talking about extraction methods and the different machinery that is used.
There will also be talks about the monitoring equipment used to ensure there are no movements in the mine and about the unique geology of the island.
