With June bursting out all over, Mews Cottage garden will be open on specified dates during the next few months in aid of the National Garden Scheme, (NGS), and local charities.
Entrance is £2 in aid of the NGS. (children free), while the proceeds from stalls will go to the specified charities.
The garden, at 34, Easton Street, Portland, the home of Mr Peter Pitman and his wife Jill will open on Saturday, June 4 from 11am-4pm and the charity to benefit will be Portland St John Ambulance.
In addition to the tea and cakes, ploughman’s lunches will also be available as well as a tombola with a prize every time.
The garden will open again on Sunday, June 5 and Sunday, June 19 from 2pm-5pm in aid of NGS. Details and charities to be supported will be issued in advance of each month. Mrs Pitman said: “The National Gardens Scheme support various nursing charities”. These include:
• Macmillan Cancer Care
• Marie Curie Cancer Care
• Help the Hospices
• Crossroads – caring for carers
• The Queens Nursing Institute
• Nurses Welfare Service
• The Royal Gardeners’ Orphan Fund
• NGS gardeners’ careerships
• Perennial-Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society
• County Nursing Associations and also local charities nominated by garden owners, about 1,000 in total.
