INTEREST is increasing in the Bit of A D-Day Do which will be held at Community 2000 in Straits, Portland on June 6.

Besides the nostalgia of wartime food, memories, music and people dressed in the uniforms they have retrieved from their attics, an even more authentic touch will be added with a 1940s army style camp set up on the lawn.

C2000 co-ordinator Wilma Butler said: “We were delighted to accept the offer made by members of the Poor Bloody Infantry (PBI) history re-enactment group dressed as Tommies of the period, to add their special touch to the event. They will be performing sentry duties and will be bringing along a sand bagged machine gun post and lots of genuine wartime artefacts to display.”

She continued: “This will help set the scene for an enjoyable afternoon of nostalgia and patriotism and we are encouraging party goers to get into the spirit of things by dressing in their best 1940s apparel and bringing along their own mementoes and memories to share.”

Tickets costing £3.50 are on sale now at C2000 or Island Community Action in Easton Shopping Centre during normal office hours.
