HEROES are wanted for this year’s Dorchester Carnival Procession.
Organisers of the carnival are encouraging people to sign up for the big event in June 18, which this year has the theme of Heroes and Villains.
Carnival chairman John Palmer said “Carnival has already been rescued by our new main sponsor Brewery Square, now we need the support of local community to be super heroes and join in the fun.
“We would like to see some more procession entries to add to those already registered. “It’s a really great event to get involved in and everyone has lots of fun. If you are a youth club, a school, a local business or even just a family that likes to have fun then get in touch with us.”
Last year there were around 50 entries for the procession and organisers are hoping for a bumper turn out again as more entries mean more money raised for local good causes.
All entries receive a share of the proceeds from the carnival towards their nominated charity.
Dorchester Round Table has organised the carnival for more than 40 years and plans for this year’s event are back on track after Brewery Square Development Company Ltd stepped in to sponsor the event when a previous backer folded.
Preparations are well underway including bunting promoting this year’s event going up in South Street this week.
As well as the main carnival procession on Saturday, June 18, there will also be a street fair in South Street and South Walks and the carnival draw.
In the week before there will be a four-legged pub race round the county town on Thursday, June 16, and the Party in the Park at the Borough Gardens the following day as well as the funfair for schools in the Fairfield car park.
Procession application forms are available by contacting Ellis Ford on 07809 533251 or emailing ellisford1968@googlemail.com Forms can also be downloaded from the Carnival website, dorchestercarnival.co.uk, which also boasts information about this year’s events.
The closing date for entries in Monday, June 6.
