I REFER to the story ‘Mauled to death’ (Echo, May 23) about a Jack Russell dog killed by a bigger dog in Dorchester’s Borough Gar-dens last weekend.

Pauline Burgess, I am sorry for your loss and for the fact that the perpetrator, and its owners, are likely to go unpunished and will be wagging its tail for its family while you have nothing. The law on these things needs to be changed.

Recently we read about a dog who escaped its home because the place was being burgled and, frightened, it ran away when challenged.

It was then cornered, still no aggression, but because of the lack of effort to find its owners, the dog has to be destroyed. On the other hand this week we have a dog which is aggressive, attacked and killed another dog, in close proximity to children, and nothing is done.

This dog is still alive to do it again and again. Please someone enlighten me as to where the justice in this really is? All dogs that are on the dangerous list should be muzzled.

This would then put a stop to a great deal of the problems.

Something needs to be done now, before the next letter is about a child that was mauled to death.
