ST Peter’s church fete and fun dog show takes place at Portesham village hall and adjoining field on Sunday, 5 June.
The fun starts at 12 noon with dog show registrations from 11am. There are 12 classes including “Best 6 legs” (dog and handler!) and “Dog that most suits its name”. Best in show will also be judged.
Children will be kept busy with the free bouncy castle, teddy bear raffle and various games and quizzes including “Guess the frog’s birthday”. Barring emergency call outs, the fire brigade (plus engine!) will be taking visitors and the scouts will be mounting a tug of war challenge.
Grown ups need not feel left out as they can sample the BBQ, designer sandwiches and Pimms bar before visiting various stalls selling cakes, plants, sweets and numerous other goodies.
CLASS 3 at Portesham Primary school held a car wash to raise money for their twinned school, Nguluwe in Malawi. They washed 18 cars and raised £90. Well done to them all and a special thanks to Alan Old of Olds in Portesham for donating the car wash, shampoo and wax!
THE British Legion is 90 years old and to celebrate, Abbotsbury and Portesham RBL present Weymouth Concert Brass in a special concert at 7.30 pm on Friday, 10 June at Portesham village hall.
Tickets are £6.50 and are available from 3 Frys Close, Portesham – 871346 - or committee members.
There will be a prize raffle and refreshments and all proceeds go to the RBL Poppy appeal and the Women’s section benevolent trust.
The women’s section will also be running the ever popular village café at the village hall on Saturday, 4 June, usual time, 10 am to 12 noon.
COME and visit our PCSO, Sarah Pilcher at the village hall coffee shop on Tuesday, 7 June. At the request of one of “her villagers”, Sarah has recently written an article about her role as a PCSO from a personal perspective. In it she urges against complacency in leaving buildings unlocked and items on view in gardens.
If you need any advice on securing your home and possessions then come along for a chat. Sarah hopes to be there from 1030 to 1130.
