I am sorry that Ann Taylor wasted a journey to visit the Middle Stone Age site at Culverwell on the Bill Road on Portland on Monday, May 2 (Your Say, May 17).
It was open on the Sunday and we had many visitors. As reported in the Echo, the rain on the Monday caused quite a few cancellations of events.
The archaeological remains at Culverwell are very vulnerable, being in some places just a few inches below the ground surface.
The site is managed by the Association of Portland Archae-ology and we have a duty to protect it.
We will be open again on the next bank holiday and in the afternoons of the first Sunday of every month until August, weather permitting.
If Mrs Taylor would like to ring me it may be possible to open it up at some other time when the site is dry.
Susann Palmer, Weston Road, Portland
