A MAN has been cleared of charges of exposing himself to children and of causing other youngsters to watch sexual videos and images for his own gratification.
Wayne Edwin Whatley, aged 32, of Buxton Road, Weymouth was acquitted at Weymouth Magistrates Court yesterday of two charges following a trial.
Mr Whatley had pleaded not guilty to two charges.
One was that between May 27, 2004 and May 27, 2009 for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, he intentionally caused a child under the age of 13, namely nine-years-old, to look at an image of a person engaging in a sexual activity.
The second charge was that between September 1, 2010 and October 11, 2010, he intentionally exposed himself intending that someone would see and be caused alarm or distress.
On the first day of the trial, the court heard statements from the alleged victims.
Yesterday, magistrates heard from Mr Whatley who denied any wrongdoing.
The court heard that when asked in a police interview about whether he had exposed himself, Mr Whatley replied: “I would never do that.
“Never ever do that. I can’t see myself doing that. I wouldn’t do it.”
Mr Whatley said he would never have got any sexual gratification from the alleged offences and that the idea of it was ‘disgusting’ and ‘wrong’.
He said in the interview: “No, no, no, not in a million years, no.”
He added that the suggestion of the charge of him exposing himself made him ‘feel sick’ to think about it.
Ian Brazier, defending, highlighted discrepancies with all the witnesses’ accounts of events including different times and places the offences were alleged to have taken place.
To the charge of causing youngsters under the age of 13 years to look at an image of a person engaging in a sexual activity, Mr Whatley said that he had been sent the phone images and video clips by friends.
He said he had viewed them but had not intentionally shown them to any youngsters.
The chairman of the bench Mike Owen said magistrates found Mr Whatley not guilty of both charges.
