A YOUNG woman whose boyfriend is serving in the Royal Marines is holding a fundraiser for the forces’ charity Help for Heroes in Dorchester.
Raine Prepok, 19, has organised the event which will be held at Tom Brown’s pub on bank holiday Monday where her mother Jo-Ann Von Weichardt is the manager.
There will be children’s activities and a bouncy castle, a raffle and an auction, ferret racing and plastic duck racing at the fundraiser, which is taking place on May 30 from 1pm at the pub in High East Street.
There will also be an all-day barbecue in the pub’s garden and live music from local bands the Dinnerladies and Ansel and Gretel from 5pm.
Miss Prepok said her inspiration to organise the event came from the fact her partner and former Thomas Hardye pupil turned Royal Marine Ben Dixon, 19, is currently serving off the coast of Libya.
She said: “My boyfriend Ben is in the forces and so are a lot of my friend’s boyfriends and relatives.
“It’s something which is quite close to me and it seemed like a good cause.
“I hope people come down and have fun. We want it to be a family event.
“We don’t want people to feel pressured into making donations – just coming along to enjoy the day.”
