ANTIQUE hunters will be flocking to Lulworth Castle next month to discover hidden treasures.

Dorset people will discover if their possessions are worth thousands as presenter Fiona Bruce and the Antiques Roadshow team come to the county.

Last time the BBC hit show came to Dorset was in 2007 at Highcliffe Castle, Christchurch. Attic raiders discovered their goods were worth more than £40,000.

Included in the finds were a collection of Lancers Cap Plates worth £25,000, an early 18th century Japanese Kutani bottle bought for £3.99 in a charity shop and valued at £4,000 and an early 20th century French bonheur du jour desk which was worth more than £12,000.

When the show comes to Lulworth on Thursday, June 2, Fiona Bruce will be presenting along with other experts David Battie, Henry Sandon and Hilary Kay.

Series Editor Simon Shaw says: “As a television producer it’s a scary prospect when we turn up for a day’s filming and no knowledge of what might turn up.

“I often look at the queue first thing and say a quiet prayer that there really are interesting pieces in all those bags.

“Amazingly we still keep finding fascinating pieces – and some of the best aren’t necessarily the most valuable.

“It is such a prestigious and hugely popular programme, which has been on our television screens for over 30 years, so it will be very interesting to see what the residents of Dorset will bring along.”

James Weld, Lulworth Estate general manager, said: “We are thrilled to welcome the much-loved Antiques Roadshow to the beautiful setting of Lulworth Castle for one of this year’s venue selections.

“It is such a prestigious and hugely popular programme which has been on our television screens for over 30 years, so it will be very interesting to see what the residents of Dorset will bring along.

“It will most certainly get everyone rummaging around for their hidden family treasures.”

Residents in Dorset can contact the production team beforehand and be in with a chance of having their goods transported to the castle on the day from a free valuation.

The doors are open from 9.30am until 4.30am and entry to the event is free.
