HAS anyone noticed that the pavements, kerbs, gutters and walls of Weymouth and Portland are being engulfed by an ever-expanding tide of green?

It would appear that the street cleaning of the borough was the first area to take a hit in the council cuts as for the second year the pavement and gutters are turning green under an array of weeds and shrubs.

Drive along Radipole Park Drive and the kerb is turning green to follow on from last year’s four foot display at the end of summer.

Look for the buddleia sprouting from the pavement at the back of the post office, look out for the ragwort and cow parsley in the verges, check out the weeds in the mud squares at the new traffic lights, check out the brambles covering the Portland dry stone walls.

Some may look lovely when they flower but the roots are destroying the walls, pavements and roads.

Who will pick up the bill when it all needs replacing?

Or will we be returning to bygone days when pavements were mud and grass tracks?
