AS the number of youngsters joining the Scout movement grows year on year, a call has gone out for people to step forward and volunteer to help run the many meetings and activities that members enjoy.
Tomorrow, Weymouth and Portland Scout District are holding a recruitment event outside Debenhams in Weymouth.
Membership in the borough has grown by five per cent in the past year, exceeding the national trend of 1.29 per cent, and more volunteers are needed to continue this upward trend Between 9.30am and 4.30pm, you will be able to chat to volunteers and even try your hand at a few Scout-orientated activities including climbing and abseiling from a climbing tower at no charge.
The Scout Association provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for 400,000 young people aged 6 to 25 in the UK.
In Weymouth and Portland there are more than 600 male and female members from six years of age to adults drawn from Weymouth, Portland, Chickerell, Portesham, Abbotsbury, Upwey and Osmington.
