Dorset Echo reporters to run Race for Life in Dorchester

Dorset Echo reporters Joanna Davis, Catherine Bolado, Laura Kitching, chief reporter Miriam Phillips and Bridport and Lyme Regis News reporter Adrianne Maslen will be embarking on the 5km charity challenge in the grounds of Kingston Maurward College this Sunday.

Senior reporter Joanna, 30, said: “The great thing about Race for Life is that it encourages all of us to push ourselves that little bit further.

“For me, that involves running on an occasion when I’m not actually late for something and for others this will involve competing on the 5km course with a big smile on their faces and having a fantastic day out at the same time.

“I am running in memory of my nan Grace Drew, who passed away 10 years ago from pancreatic cancer.

“When she got this extremely aggressive form of cancer complete with terrible jaundice she was still fussing around in her dressing gown making sure everyone was okay and plied with cups of tea, when of course we were only concerned about her.

“So it is not an anonymous cause we are running for, it is the very real people who have been in our lives or are still in our lives and have been affected by cancer.”

Senior reporter Adrianne, 27, said: “Unfortunately there are very few people who can say they have not lost someone to cancer or battled cancer themselves. Lots of people I know have been taken by the disease, beginning with my grandmother when I was just nine.

“She developed breast cancer which eventually spread to the rest of her body.

“I have also lost a teacher, a very close family friend and most recently my father-in-law who died of pancreatic cancer a few years ago.

“I know that raising money for Cancer Research won’t bring my loved ones back but if I can help others and stop people from going through some of the heartache I am happy to do whatever I can and raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause.”
