CHARLTON DOWN: DORSET Wildlife Trust: Three successful meetings have taken place since the idea of a local Dorset Wildlife Trust group was first established in January this year.
Another series of talks is planned for the winter and possible outdoor events this summer.

BROWNIES have started up again in the Village Hall at the beginning of this month.
Girls who are aged seven or over are welcome to join, a waiting list of younger girls has been started.

CERNE ABBAS: LEADING European musicians of the Gaudier Ensemble will once again take centre stage during this year’s Cerne Abbas Music Festival.
It takes place from Thursday, July 7 – Sunday, July 10, full details of the programme are available on the official website www.cerneabbasmusicfestival.co.uk.
Evenings will feature works from America and Russia, the ensemble will rehearse in St. Mary’s Church and also play at the local schools!

BEATING of the Bounds: A reminder that this popular village walk which follows an ancient tradition takes place on Sunday, May 29.
The walk offers a choice of distances covering parts or all of the three Cerne parishes.
As before, it will culminate in a buffet supper at The New Inn, tickets for this are £ 5.

HISTORICAL Society: “George Digby – a Victorian Landowner” is the title of this month’s talk.
Having changed his name to George Wingfield Digby he modernised Sherborne Castle, improved the estate and started a career of almost 30 years of philanthropy.
It should be very interesting to learn more about him so don’t miss Thursday, May 26 when the talk will take place at the Village Hall at 7:30pm.
Non-members are as always welcome against payment of a small fee.
SYDLING ST. NICHOLAS: PIDDLE Valley Children’s Centre: This centre which is managed by Barnardo’s on behalf of Dorset County Council will visit the village on Friday, June 10.
The Piddle Valley Bus will be stationed at the Pre-School between 10am – 11:30am.
This mobile centre aims to support all children and their parents or carers by offering educational play and training courses.
Financial, employment and benefit advice are also available.
OPEN Gardens: The Sydling Open Garden Weekend takes place on Sunday, May 29 and Bank Holiday Monday, May 30 this year.
Many beautiful gardens can be admired between 2pm – 6pm.
Take the time to visit the plant stalls on display and treat yourself to refreshments!
Tickets which are £ 4 (children go free) can be bought from the Village Hall.
The organisers regret to say that no dogs are allowed.
BUCKLAND NEWTON: A REMINDER of the Charity Poultry Auction that takes place on Sunday, May 29.
There will be lots of entertainment on the day which starts at 10am at The Gaggle of Geese.
Enjoy a car boot sale, craft stalls, a raffle, farmer’s market as well as a barbecue and pig roast!
