I READ that the famous stone age site of Culverwell on the Bill Road, Portland, would be open between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday and Monday, May 1 and 2.
On Monday, May 2 at 3pm I went to view the site, but it was locked and deserted. There was a telephone number on the information board, so I phoned – only to be told that as it was a ‘sea of mud’ it was closed.
Standing outside the gate there was fresh green grass, no mud in sight.
It had rained a little on Sunday night and again on Monday morning, not enough to make the site closed.
Who manages this ‘famous site’ and why advertise on Friday for it to be closed at the weekend?
Having driven 24 miles, with the present cost of petrol, it was a wasted trip.
