A MAN who failed to report a road traffic accident was fined and given five points on his licence.
Kevan Frances Sheehan, aged 65, of Osmington Mills appeared at Weymouth Magistrates Court yesterday to face charges of failing to stop after a road traffic accident and failing to report the accident. Nicky Reece, prosecuting, said that on December 2, 2010, Sheehan, who parks his car in the Smugglers Inn in Osmington Mills, reversed his Land Rover into a VW Golf and after looking out of the door to see if any damage had been done, drove off and did not report the incident.
Lee Christmas, mitigating, said that his client had looked out of the door and did not see any damage and so had left.
He said that if Sheehan had known he had hit the car he would have gone into the pub and found the owner.
Magistrates chairman Bob Henley said: “For this offence we fine you £80 and you are to pay £35 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. That is £130 in total and we will add five points to your driving licence.”
