YOUNGSTERS are being invited to gain expert training and run a roadshow in Weymouth.

Children aged 11 to 19 will be given the chance to run a one-day event that can include exhibitions, workshops and performances including music, comics, poetry or other ideas based on reading and writing.

The MyVoice Roadshow will include well-known authors and artists as part of the line-up.

Organisers The Reading Agency chose Weymouth Library as one of five venues across the country in an event designed to get more people involved in reading and using their library.

The roadshow will come to town on Wednesday, July 27 and a group of 10 to 20 youngsters will get advice and training in event management from Arts Council experts and will get to choose a writer or an artist to feature.

A spokesman for The Reading Agency said the youngsters will formulate their own ideas with advice on hand to guide them.

She said: “It’s about reading and creative writing in any of its forms so that might involve books, poetry, comics or songs.

“It’s to give them a chance to use their ideas and for them to take the lead on how they want their event to look.”

The Reading Agency is an independent charity working to inspire people to read more and is supported by its funding suppliers Arts Council England.

The roadshow is being delivered by Dorset Library Service and partners with the support of creative professionals.

Tracy Long, library service manager at Dorset County Council, said: “Dorset Library Service is delighted that Weymouth has been selected as one of five venues in the country to host this event and we are now on the look-out for young people aged 11 to 19-years-old who want to get involved in promoting and programming the Weymouth MyVoice Roadshow.”
