Having lived in Weymouth since 1978, I really must agree with everyone submitting letters complaining about the supposed improved Weymouth road network. What a joke! When they first built the mini roundabout at the top of Boot Hill many years ago, everyone commented on what a wonderful idea this was and how efficient it was in keeping traffic moving.

Over the past months, the whole Weymouth package has been put in total chaos and the town will now suffer for many a year – and all for buses being able to transport personnel to and from the Olympics.

I’m sure that 300-yard bus lanes are really going to make a difference.

What about all the local residents that used to be able to park their vehicles where the new bus lane has been implemented?

The new relief road that we have been waiting for since the 1940s has been built for £87million and what type of junctions have been used within this network? Roundabouts.

What used to be at all major junctions, which made our traffic flow sensibly? Roundabouts.

What would have eliminated the traffic congestion at Littlemoor traffic lights? A roundabout.

What has been keeping all traffic flowing around the roadworks while the new junctions have been created? Roundabouts.

I can understand why the lanes at all the traffic lights have been built with two lanes so more vehicles can get through the junction quicker when the lights turn green but why have all the junctions that used to be two lanes been reduced to single?

Rodwell junction and clock tower junction – traffic used to flow through these quite adequately.

Where was the hold-up always on the Dorchester Road prior to opening the relief road? Traffic lights.

Why has King Street always had problems both ways and had traffic congestion? Traffic lights.

What are we now being inundated with to supposedly improve the traffic in the town? Yes you guessed it, traffic lights.

And the biggest, latest news of all, which I think is priceless – the graveyard junction by All Saints church is going to be modified to again improve traffic flow and what are they putting there?

Well, I’m astonished, a roundabout.

When is this council going to stop playing with their Dinky toy models in their offices and get out to see what this town really needs and solve the problems?

We used to be plagued with vehicles being parked on all the major junctions, supposedly carrying out traffic surveys.

Was anything ever actually used with regard to these surveys? If it was, they must have all had tinted glasses on.

Where are all the traffic surveys now when they could all see that congestion is now probably worse than it ever was?

I really do sympathise with every business that relies on the road network of this town. Welcome to ‘Stop-Start’ city.
