I was of the opinion that people were making a bit of a fuss over the new traffic junction as it was something new and there is always a natural aversion to change.
How wrong I was!
Before last Friday night I was a harbour junction virgin but became an embittered veteran within minutes!
Wishing to get to the Brewers Quay area for a night out at around 7.15pm, myself and my wife approached Boot Hill from Chickerell Road and proceeded on green to try and join the queue of traffic stretching down/up the hill.
This proved almost mission impossible as I was trying for the right hand lane - traffic moved two cars at a time in this lane every three minutes and no gaps appeared until some kind person, who I think had fallen asleep at the wheel, allowed me in.
We were then face to face with the intelligent traffic lights, which had obviously been programmed to encourage road rage by changing to green for the north quay direction for only 10 seconds once in a while and then only if cars from Westwey road/Newstead road were blocking the exit.
While waiting with increasing disbelief and anger, I was reminded of the Terminator films and the ‘rise of the machines’ theme - I believe these intelligent lights are the start of the machines war against mankind!
If left untouched they will look on impassively as men/women fight each other to gain that elusive goal of “right of way”.
Bring back harmless roundabouts before it is too late - you have been warned you traffic managers.
