MARINE police are urging scallop divers to stay vigilant after a sighting of missing diver Mary Ewing.
PC Richie White, of the Dorset Police Marine Section, confirmed that on May 6 Steve Barsky was diving off the Lulworth Banks when he came into contact with what he believed to be the missing diver.
PC White said: “He described her yellow 15-litre dive bottle and her blue neoprene suit.
“We’re confident that he’s probably seen Mary Ewing or her equipment. He says she’s firmly attached to the seabed at about 20m deep.
“The trouble is Mr Barsky was drifting along the bottom, he was unable to attach a buoy marker to the body. Because of the tide he’s potentially moved up to 200m away from the equipment.
“He got back in the boat and marked that position but potentially that’s a 200m area we’re searching.”
Divers who find Mary Ewing’s equipment should call 999. Non-urgent calls to 01305 222222.
