INCIDENT commander Darren Langdown from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service praised his fellow firefighters and shop workers and residents after nobody was hurt in the fire.
He said two crews from Weymouth were joined by on call firefighters from Dorchester and Portland.
He said: “The building was evacuated on our arrival. It was a fire on the electrical supply on the supply side so we requested the attendance of the electricity board.
“We worked hard to contain the fire until it was isolated and the fire was contained to the unit with heavy smoke logging to the building.”
Mr Langdown said they will be carrying out return visits to talk about fire safety and said the quick detection illustrated the importance of fire alarms.
He said: “There was a working smoke alarm.
“They reacted to it and got themselves out of the building and called us which is what we would hope everybody would do.”
