A TELEVISION star was among revellers enjoying themselves at Age Concern Weymouth’s annual party.

Actor Trevor Peacock, well known for his role as Jim Trott in the BBC comedy The Vicar of Dibley, was among 90 guests at The Centenary Club.

The charity invited members to their annual bash to enjoy two music acts and a buffet and visitors were treated to waiter service from members of the Rotary Club of Weymouth – which also funded the party.

Mr Peacock, who lives near Yeovil, has been visiting Age Concern in Weymouth for events since he came to open Pilgrim House when the charity moved to Hope Street in 2007.

The actor – whose character in the BBC show is known for the catchphrase ‘no, no, no, no’ – gave a speech at the party and joined in with the dancing.

He said: “I go all over the place for meetings and functions but Weymouth is always one of my favourite places to visit.”

The company you get at Age Concern and the welcome I always receive means I always look forward to coming here.”

Keyboard player John Hickman entertained guests and the group Replay belted out hits from the 50s and 60s.

A picture quiz was also held. Members of the Rotary Club of Weymouth served the guests as well as taking to the floor with them for a dance.

Age Concern member Peter Price, 86, of St Helen’s Road, Weymouth, said they all enjoyed it.

He said: “It was well attended so I saw so many people there I knew and it was a lovely buffet.

“Everybody had a thoroughly enjoyable day.”

Age Concern’s new chairman of trustees Dennis Corbett, also a Rotary Club of Weymouth member, praised fellow Rotarian Darron Garnett for organising the party. He said: “It was brilliant and it’s gone from strength to strength.”

Age Concern co-ordinator Nigel Coles thanked the rotary club and Mr Peacock for coming “It’s Trevor’s 80th birthday this month so he’s entitled to join,” Mr Coles joked.
