DORSET County Museum has expressed an interest in a medieval silver brooch found on farmland in the county, an inquest was told.
At a Treasure Act inquest at County Hall in Dorchester West Dorset coroner Michael Johnston said the annular brooch was found at Over Compton, near Sherborne.
He said the finder was Mike Otterbeck, from Chaffcombe near Chard.
The brooch was submitted to the British Museum, where experts dated it to the 13th or 14th Century.
Mr Johnston said that due to its age and the fact it was more than 10 per cent precious metal, it had been declared as treasure.
He added: “Dorset County Museum has expressed an interest in acquiring it.”
The brooch will now go before a treasure valuation board at the British Museum and if the museum is prepared to bid the price that is set it will acquire the item.
