I HAVE read with interest the comment in the Dorset Echo regarding the new junctions in the town which prompts me to write about the future implications of the Bincombe roundabout now being built.
Please correct me if I am wrong but it would appear to me that when it is completed, the layout will allow traffic to leave Dorchester Road near the old hairpin bend for traffic to Dorchester and also on the down side to enable traffic to go back to Dorchester Road again.
Will this include all the heavy lorries and emergency vehicles which have been conspicuous by their absence on Dorchester Road and is this going to make a mockery of the Dorchester Road being relieved?
Especially bearing in mind your entry in the Echo about property price increases in Dorchester Road being suggested.
Or will Dorchester Road serve to accompany the relief road in the event of an influx of traffic to Weymouth in the summer especially the Olympics in 2012. This being the case what fun there will be when the two roads converge at Morrisons roundabout.
The only way around the problem would be to put access only or weight limit signs from Morrisons roundabout to Upwey. I wonder will this be done also after it is too late or would somebody explain to me what will happen?
