As a lead up to Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Butterfly Bonanza event next month, businesses all over Bridport have been challenged to get creative and decorate their shop windows with all things butterfly.

The window competition will create beautiful butterfly scenes up and down the Bridport streets, showcasing the splendour of these creatures and how anyone can get involved in helping wildlife.

The competition will give the companies participating a chance to win a year’s corporate membership of Dorset Wildlife Trust.

Shops that have entered the competition are Bridport Mortgage Centre, West Dorset Mencap, Carpet World, Smith and Smith Ltd, Julia’s House Hospice Shop, Health Foods, Get Stuffed, Hair By David and Steptoes.

Catherine Mason, community conservation officer for Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Pastures New project says, “We are very excited to see what displays will pop up around Bridport; it will really brighten up the high street for shoppers as well as letting people see just how beautiful the butterflies are that can be found in their local area. It looks as if there will be a lot of healthy competition between the shops involved, they all seem to be really up for the challenge!”

You can see the butterfly window displays from 14th May until 4th June, when Bridport’s creative talents will be judged during the Bridport Butterfly Bonanza event.

The Wild about Bridport Butterfly Bonanza event will be held from 10am to 3pm on June 4th at Bridport Arts Centre and the Community Orchard. Here you can discover your local wildlife with family activities, real native wildlife and guided walks plus a chance to talk to the experts from Dorset Wildlife Trust and Butterfly Conservation.
