CAN anyone explain to me what benefits the Olympics will bring to the real local economy of Portland and tell me why should I be excited?
From my understanding, if you are involved in the sailing industry you will no doubt benefit, but I feel that the majority of people living on the island will only suffer as we already have with the roadworks.
Has any of the Olympic committee walked up through Fortuneswell recently?
It is dying on its feet with many empty and scruffy buildings.
How can that be improved with a few hanging baskets and a lick of paint just to cover it up while the Games are taking place?
It needs real investment.
It makes me angry that people who do not live here tell us that it will be a great opportunity for everyone.
In my view it will be the chosen few who will benefit from the Olympics and not the majority.
Roll on when it is over.
