So according to Dorset County Council’s Peter Finney, Weymouth’s ‘new traffic lights are so necessary’ and approved by the Department of Transport after a widespread consultation exercise (Echo, April 14).
The whole Weymouth Transport Package seemed like a reasonable idea when presented to the public as a computer-generated scheme but now the reality has been revealed it is less than desirable.
It smacks of a similar situation where the computer knew best about the long shore drift along the Preston Beach when all the locals knew that it went from south to north, not vice versa.
I have felt so strongly that the residents of the borough have had this system foisted on them that I have written to our MP.
I have asked that an independent review be carried out into the scheme to evaluate how it is meant to work and the value for money – yes, our money from taxation – of implementing it.
