AMAZING prizes worth thousands of pounds are up for grabs in Dorset Echo’s biggest competition of the year. And there’s only two days left to pick up the phone and enter for your chance to win one of the 27 sensational prizes all donated by local celebrities and businesses.

For every phone or text the proceeds of the call, minus your call charge, will be donated to Dorset County Hospital’s Digital Mammography Appeal.

The fundraiser desperately needs your help to reach its target of £500,000 for a vitally needed breast cancer scanner to be purchased and installed at the county hospital in Dorchester.

Not only will the machine modernise the current process but it will mean faster diagnosis and ultimately give women in Dorset a greater chance of beating the disease.

The stark facts are that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and of these, one in four will die from the disease.

So far, with a sterling effort from residents of Dorset and supporters of the appeal, a whopping £325,000 has been raised but a big boost is needed in order to raise the £175,000 left to go.

Chairwoman of the appeal Wendy Nightingale, who has been treated for breast cancer at DCH said, said: “This appeal has touched the hearts of people all around Dorset.

“Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by it and I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of support that the appeal has gained.

“But we have that final push to go so I urge as many of you to pick up the phone and get involved with the competition.”

Today we feature a one-to-one lesson with double Olympic medallist Simon Hiscocks on his 49er high speed boat. The prize is a once-in a lifetime opportunity for any water sports lovers as we approach the Olympic games.

But if dining is your first choice why not enter the competition to win a meal at Dermot O’Leary’s Fishy Fishy restaurant in Poole, or a luxury meal at Michelin star rated Sienna in Dorchester?

Phone lines will close at midnight on Wednesday May 11.
