DORSET Police are urging bikers to take a new course designed to save lives on the road.

Places are still available on the weekend BikeSafe course on May 21 and 22.

Run by Dorset Police and subsidised by Dorset County Council the course mixes theory and practical assessment to give bikers more skills and confidence on the road.

Police Constable Chris Smith, BikeSafe co-ordinator, said: “The BikeSafe course gives riders the opportunity to gain the skills that could one day save their life.

“It’s a great opportunity for bikers to gain advice and tips on subjects like cornering, positioning, overtaking and hazard perception.

“Bikers will be taught and assessed by Dorset Police riders who are genuinely passionate about motorcycling.”

PC Smith added: “We want to reduce motorcycle accidents and casualties by engaging with bikers.

“Our assessors know how bike accidents happen because we are the people that attend the scenes. We can use this experience to help bikers see where they are going wrong and what they can do to improve their safety on the road.”

The course costs £20 and bikers must have a bike with an engine larger than 250cc.
