Event to be held on bank holiday Sunday Dorchester Town Football Club is urging the community to get involved with a fun day that will be held in Poundbury.
The Dorchester Town FC Community Fun Day will be taking place on The Great Field, where there will be activities for all the family.
One of the organisers, Mark Cope, who is also one of the associate directors at the club, said the aim of the event was to bring local people together and promote Dorchester Town FC.
He said the fun day on Sunday, May 29 would be the first event of its kind in more than a decade.
Mr Cope, of Castle Park, said club chairman Shaun Hearn was keen to bring back community events of this nature to the role of the football club.
He said: “We wanted to hold a fun day for the local community so we got in touch with the Duchy of Cornwall and they were more than happy to help and let us use The Great Field.
“There will be face painting, inflatables and a bouncy castle, tug-o-war, arts and crafts, entertainment including dancing, a dog show and lots more.
“There will be a mini soccer tournament as well and we’re hoping to get a skittle alley but that’s to be confirmed.”
The fun day will be taking place until around 5pm, but afterwards there will be live music, refreshments and a licensed bar.
There will also be a number of beer tents selling real ale.
Mr Cope added: “This is an event for all the family.
“There’s plenty for the kids in the day and live music, refreshments and a licensed bar from 5pm.
“This is the first time in about 10 or 15 years that the football club has held an event like this.
“We’re looking for everyone to come along and have a good time.”
Mr Cope said the event would also be a good opportunity to promote the fact that the Magpies now have three teams – the first team, the reserve team and the third team as well as those in the youth teams.
He said the organisers were looking for more businesses to put themselves forward to set up a promotional stall and that they were also particularly looking for arts and crafts stands.
Anyone looking to help out on the day or set up a stall should contact Mark Cope on 07538096742.
