OLDER people and those with a disability will get help to make the switch to digital TV next year.
People who live in Dorset and are in the Meridian area, getting their TV signal from the Rowridge transmitter on the Isle of Wight will lose their analogue channels next year.
People are eligible for the BBC-run Switchover Help Scheme if they are aged over 75, have lived in a care home for more than six months, get certain disability benefits or are registered blind or partially sighted.
Every eligible person will get a letter from the scheme in the run up to switchover. It will offer them practical help to convert one of their TV sets to digital.
Switchover Help Scheme manager for the Meridian region Caroline Byng said: “Many people will find it simple to switch and lots of people already have. But for those who need a little extra help, we want them to know that they will get the additional support they need from the Switchover Help Scheme.” People who need advice on switching to digital not eligible for Switchover Help Scheme can visit digitaluk.co.uk or call 08456 505050.
