THE Match Race Girls claimed gold in the women’s match racing event at the ISAF Sailing World Cup regatta in Hyeres.

Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor, right, celebrated by wearing makeshift crowns in tribute to Friday’s Royal Wedding celebrations.

Lucy, 24, said: “We are really excited with the win in Hyeres.

“Once again we had a good battle with Sally Barkow’s American team in Hyeres although this time we managed to work it so we didn’t meet until the finals of the event and won 3-0, much better planning than meeting in the quarters and being defeated 3-2 like last time.

“Now we are back to Weymouth to focus our efforts on the Olympic venue.

“We have this week off in Poole to try and relax a bit then we’ll be back down to Weymouth on Monday for a fitness test and to continue with our training.”
