Abbotsbury

  • RAISING the roof . There is to be a marvellous concert on Sunday, May 8 in aid of the St Nicholas Church Roof Appeal.

Professional musicians John Bryden on piano and Calum Robertson on clarinet will play a selection of works by Debussy, Schumann and John Ireland.

Those who attended their concert last year will remember just how special it was to have musicians of such high calibre to visit the village.

John Bryden and Calum Robertson will have travelled from Scotland and will perform without fee for the appeal.

The concert will take place in the church at 3.00pm.

Tickets cost £10 and include a glass of wine or juice in the interval. For tickets and more information contact Mrs Houlberg 01305 81085 or Miss Channon 01305 871261.

  • STRANGWAYS Hall Yard Sale was a great success.

£200 was raised towards funds for those little extras for the new kitchen.

Other stallholders seemed to have done well too.

There will now be regular monthly Yard and table top sales at Strangways Hall taking place on the following Sundays - May 21, June 18, July 16 and August 20 from 10.30 – 15.30.

To book a table at a cost of £5 call 01305 871629 for more details.

  • ONE independent stall holder was Tricia Houlberg who raised £98 towards the Raise the Roof Appeal for St Nicholas from her delicious preserves and bits and bobs. Well done to her – every little bit helps towards the massive cost of replacing the stolen lead from the church roof.
  • MORE details are now available from Abbotsbury Residents Corps (ARC) about our Village in Bloom competition.

This is open to all residents and businesses that have displays visible from the road. There are no entry forms everyone has a chance.

James Foster Pegg from Poundbury Garden Centre will tour the village - in secret - in early July to choose the winners.

So, now is the time to get planting!

  • WORK on the church clock is now complete.

It has been a mammoth task undertaken by Smith of Derby.

The clock keeps perfect time as it is now automated and the restored clock face gleams in the sunlight. Lovely.
