- A GREAT Yard and Table Top sale is to be held in the village hall on Saturday, April 9, 10.30am – 4pm.
Wonderful news! Strangways Hall is about to have a refurbished kitchen.
To this end they are having a big turn out of the hall cupboards and invite the villagers to do so as well in aid of the Hall funds and a donation to the St Nicholas Church Roof Appeal.
A successful grant application means that they can have new cookers, fridge and cupboards.
The Ilchester Estates will also be fixing the leaking kitchen roof.
Tables are for hire at £5 for personal stallholders - you keep any monies you make on these.
The committee are appealing for unwanted items to sell.
Here is your chance people of Abbotsbury to have a good spring clean to help this worthy cause.
Any unsold goods will be given to charity.
Refreshments will also be on sale throughout the day.
The sale will take place in the hall, in the yard and the front garden so do come along and help them make this an amusing and profitable event.
For more information, to rent a table or to drop off goods contact Heather or Dave on 01305 871629.
- ABBOTSBURY Cricket Club are looking to recruit new members in all age groups - last year the members ranged from 14 – 67.
I wonder if that includes women too?
The new season starts in April and nets will be arranged in the weeks either side of Easter.
Simon Pengelly is their captain and according to the recent bulletin the club is looking to consolidate and advance on its mid table position on Saturdays and in the Dorchester Evening League.
We are able to see the field from our house and notice that Mike Lydford the grounds man and club secretary and his little dogs are already hard at work on this lovely pitch – voted by Wisdens some years ago as the loveliest ground.
What could be more perfect than sitting in the summer sun watching them play and to be able to look up to St Catherine’s chapel or down to the sea?
Contact Simon Pengelly on 07759 710485 for more information.
- STRANGWAYS Hall management committee are to host a monthly community lunch club.
The committee held a very successful pilot lunch on March 3.

- TREES – Would you like to be fondly remembered by your descendants in years to come as someone who cared about Abbotsbury.
John Hodgson reports that the organisation Trees for Dorset is trying to encourage local people to plant more trees in their villages.
If you would like to join the growing list of residents interested in supporting this idea contact John on 01305 871033 or by email abarisapollo@btinternet.com .
They plan to have a small memorial grove at the top of the Community recreation field.
There would be a donors name attached to each tree, and a bench to relax on.
The Ilchester Estate Forestry Advisor has kindly undertaken to advise on appropriate trees.
