THE Friends of St Nicholas Church will be celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a Pancake Evening at Strangways Hall on Tuesday, March 8
Pancakes, sweet and savoury will be on offer with hot and cold drinks and cake stall too.
There will be a quiz for the children and also a quiz for the more mature. Prizes will be given.
The evening begins at 6pm.
Entry is free with a small charge for the food.
THE Friends of St Nicholas raise funds for those little extras that make the life of the church more comfortable
In the recent past they have helped with the sound system and provided a CD player with Cds of hymns for use when there is not an organist, a hot water urn, funds for the church flower group and gifts for new babies in the village amongst other things.
At a recent committee meeting of the Friends, Gordon Wenham from LazyHill Gallery was welcomed and takes the place of David Clarke as treasurer.
Grateful thanks were given to David.
The Friends have also generously offered to pay the annual maintenance fee over the next five years for the newly restored church clock.
The clock now has an automated winding system, restored dial and movement.
IT appears that the planned Auction of Promises due to be hosted by Oliver Letwin MP, due to take place on Friday, March 18 has now been postponed.
I will give you more information when I receive it.
The Annual Parochial Church meeting (APCM) of St Nicholas Church will take place on Saturday, April 2nd at 3.30pm.
Tea and Cakes will follow the meeting.
All are invited to attend this meeting.
Major works are to take place on the coast road,B3157, over the next few weeks
Resurfacing work is to take place in West Street, Abbotsbury, and the Elworth Junction between Portesham and Abbotsbury also at Burton Bradstock.
The road will be closed through Abbotsbury between about 08.30am –3.35pm during the week beginning March 21 and the other resurfacing has been planned over the last two weeks of March and the first week of April.
