- WE ARE all bewildered by the decision of the ‘Powers-that-be’, to turn down the plans for replacing the eyesore of The Bungalow at the entrance of the village, with an attractive dwelling, keeping the ‘look’ of the old building on the roadside, but digging out at the rear to give the extra space in the ‘basement’ area, out of sight.
We had a village meeting and no one spoke against it (which is amazing as we are very touchy about what is built here), approving of the effort & thought that had gone into it, also the family have roots in Langton for several generations and would be good and useful members of our community.
Apparently, they think that walkers on Rodden Ridge (some 800 yards away) might not like it - the fact that 2 or 3 years ago, they allowed a three story house to be built across the road, on a 5 foot bank – doesn’t seem to matter.
They take notice of what ramblers MIGHT think but when told that the village approved, the comment was made that they didn’t pay much attention to THAT! Hey ho.
- WE had a busy day on Tuesday, what with a Village Lunch of Steak & Mushroom pie, followed by warm Brownies with a choice of sauces and cream – thank you to all the cooks and behind the scenes workers & forget the post Christmas diet for the day!
This was followed in the evening with a feast of a different kind – Sally Fielding’s excellent slides & talk, for the Garden Club, on their trips through New Zealand (I was told - ‘best holiday slides I’ve ever sat through’!) – I knew Sally was a dab hand at all sorts of things, but abseiling in a GLACIER?
The giant trees, tree ferns in their native setting, all the strange & wonderful plants and animals – thank you Sally, I’m sure we’re all green with envy.
- TUESDAY, February 1st is going to be another good evening, as we have Rob Curtis giving a talk on ‘It’s a Grave Business – Dead interesting in Dorset’ at the Village Club AGM – he is an excellent speaker and the business meeting is kept to a minimum! Visitors £2.00.
