TWO drivers had a lucky escape after a collision in which vehicles demolished part of a wall in Weymouth.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews attended the scene at the junction of Pottery Lane and Newstead Road in Westham on Sunday morning.
Police said a blue Vauxhall Zafira and a blue Nissan Note collided and crashed into a traffic light control box, careered through a wall and ended up in the front garden of a house.
The damage has meant the traffic lights at the junction have has to be replaced by temporary lights.
Geraldine Halama, of Newstead Road, said: “I didn’t hear the collision because I was in the kitchen but my husband said it sounded like a lorry dropping off a load of hard core.
“We looked out and the two cars had come to a stop side by side through the wall.
“The police arrived and they were directing traffic until temporary lights were put up.”
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “We received a call at 8.46am to a two vehicle collision at the junction of Newstead Road and Pottery Lane.
“The drivers were looked over by the ambulance service and treated at the scene for minor injuries.”
A spokesman for Dorset County Council said that the temporary lights would stay in place until replacements had arrived.
