Abbeyfield held a very successful Christmas coffee morning at Wyke Oliver Road, when residents from Abbeyfield Leigh House and the Community Angels were also present in force, helping to swell the numbers and ensuring that everyone had a really jolly festive morning.
The Angels have become very involved with Abbeyfield and the community spirit is wonderful to experience, with many activities taking place on a regular basis, with games evenings planned for the New Year.
In addition, children from St Andrew’s School and Westfield will be joining the residents for carols before Xmas.
Local businesses have bumper plans for ‘Christmas on the Green’ on Tuesday 21 December at Chalbury Corner.
Karen & Glenda from Goadsbys are organising a colouring competition for pupils from St Andrew’s School, who will receive a colouring pack in the last week of term. A selection of the pictures returned to Goadsbys will be displayed in the window!
Peter Hyde of Trinity Street Christmas Trees is donating the now traditional tree, and between 10am and 7pm on the Tuesday there will be tea, coffee, mulled wine and mince pies, provided by Head Style, , together with the chance, for a small donation, of having your presents gift wrapped. Drop in to Goadsbys on the day to take advantage of this service - bring your own paper or it can be supplied.
Also there will be wine tasting with Nick in Chalbury Wine Stores and the Portland Sea Bass Fish Man will be on the Green.
At 5pm the colouring competition prize giving takes place and from then onwards Barbara and Mike of the Spar shop on Preston Road will have hot dogs available.
Santa will arrive in style at 5.15pm and Preston Pantomime Group will lead the singing of carols at 6pm.
As the evening is raising money for Julia’s House, donations for the items on offer would be appreciated, and there will be a raffle. This promises to be a fun filled day and marvellous traditional festive evening for all the family to celebrate the Christmas season.
The Salvation Army will be playing carols outside Joyce Madge's home at 49, Brunel Drive on Wednesday 15 December starting at 7pm.
The Linden Lea Branch of the Foresters sponsors the electricity costs for the display of lights and reindeer outside the house. A collection will be taken on the night and donations at other times will be gratefully received through the front door letter box.
If you haven’t seen this colourful display, it’s definitely worth a visit!
