REFUSE and recycling bin collections were halted across the county due to the snow.

Conditions made collections difficult yesterday and residents may not get collections today if the freezing temperatures continue.

Householders are being advised to leave their bins out and crews will try and collect them as soon as possible.

If rubbish is not collected, residents will not have a collection until their next scheduled day.

Then they will be able to put three extra refuse sacks out for collection.

In Weymouth and Portland, all collections that were to take place yesterday are suspended until the following collection.

The council has appealed for any residents who are able to go to the local tip or their local recycling centre to dispose of the waste to do so as the bin teams will be handling four weeks’ waste on the next collection.

The council’s waste management team will assess conditions tomorrow morning to decide whether the normal collection will be resumed. Information can be found at www.weymouth.gov.uk.
