FOUR brave men have stepped up to the challenge of being auctioned off for charity.

The fearless four responded to an appeal by a group of women who wanted to spice up their silent auction.

Chemical engineer Joe Snell, Lions club member Les Board, chef Steve Fookes and window installer Stewart Roberts will be the subjects of a bidding war this evening.

The event at the Moose Lodge in Chickerell Road starts at 7.30pm and all are welcome to attend and help raise money for local charities.

Weymouth Moose Ladies appealed in the Echo for a man to offer his skills in DIY, gardening or waitering to boost the charity coffers and are overwhelmed that four have stepped forward.

Stewart, 34, of Windowlicious in Weymouth, said: “My wife Ellie volunteered me.

“I was told I’d be making tea in my boxer shorts and a dickie-bow tie. I’m well up for a bit of fun and to make the ladies happy.

“I’m easily worth a grand but I don’t think they’ll pay that.”

Steve, 29, who works at Café Royal on The Esplanade, said: “I’m a man of many talents.

“I’d be happy to cook them a meal, serve tea or make scones, whatever they like.”

Dad-of-three Joe, 32, of Wyke Regis, volunteers regularly at Weymouth’s Sunrise Gateway Club for disabled adults and is aiming for a £50 bid.

He said: “I’m happy to do anything for the highest bidder, I could serve tea, wash cars or do gardening.

“I used to work at the Sea Life Park as a children’s entertainer, so I can do whatever they need.”

Retired Les, from the Lodmoor area, was nominated to take part by the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club.

He said: “We’re always pleased to help local charities and it’s a bit of fun.

“I reckon I’m worth £100, I can chauffeur, do DIY or gardening, although it’s a bit chilly.”

Moose Ladies president Cathy Page-Nash said: “It’s lovely to have four volunteer men for our auction, we’re very excited.

“That’s especially so for one lady who wants to bid for a man to serve tea to her friends at their apartment block.

“They’ve said they can do whatever we want, they’re very brave.”

Other prizes include cream teas, hampers, a fish and chip supper, hairdresser vouchers, a carvery at the Hotel Rembrandt and pantomime tickets.

Proceeds will go to the Weymouth Lifeboats, Dorset Somerset Air Ambulance and The Will Mackaness Trust, which aims to give young people the opportunity to experience water sports.
