IT would appear that the familiar whiff of apathy is alive and well in the town and is now clearly evident at the Manor Roundabout. Why?
About five weeks ago the Echo published a letter from a concerned reader who commented (quite rightly) about the incorrect spelling on works signage along the Dorchester Road, ie CAUTION LORRYS TURNING.
Has this embarrassing and inattention to detail been rectified?
I am afraid not; in fact the problem has now assumed a slightly farcical and inelegant distraction.
There are now two signs about six feet apart and both visible simultaneously – CAUTION LORRYS TURNING and CAUTION LORRIES TURNING.
They clearly both can’t be right. You really can’t make it up.
Surely it is not beyond the wit of man to ensure that multiple signs, no public display, that convey exactly the same message are all spelled correctly. It’s hardly quantum physics.
Given this lethargic view of the problem is it really any wonder that many children leave school ignorant of basic grammar, unable to spell, incapable of composing a proper sentence, and totally inept at writing a coherent and lucid letter.
Can someone please remove or replace the incorrect signs?
