For the first time a wedding reception has been held on the Jubilee Field.
At their recent meeting Bradford Peverell Councillors heard that it had been a great success and that a thank you letter had been received from the parents of the bride together with a generous donation.
Councillors agreed that such donations should be used for the maintenance and improvement of the two village amenity fields and it was agreed that the field could be used in future for special occasions such as this and that a donation would be asked for.
It is very suitable for weddings as the field is next to the church.
The council was then asked whether a light hearted dog show could be held at next year's summer fete.
This was agreed provided strict guidelines were followed such as keeping the dogs on leads and clearing up any mess.
Cllr Jan Wilson is to obtain a quote for new netting along the Muckleford Lane side of the field and make enquiries about the provision of a small gate or kissing gate type of opening so that children could not run directly onto the road.
Salt and grit bins have been ordered and Pete Hallett will fix these in place soon.
It had been hoped to have more information about the drainage scheme in Church Lane but the meeting has been deferred.
Cllr David Ackerman has been in touch with the District Council re funding to replace trees grubbed out along the riverbank near the railway bridge at Ash Hill.
No money is available at present but suitable trees will be investigated via environmental groups.
Speed and volume of traffic through the village was raised as a matter of concern revealed by the Parish Plan Questionnaire.
There have been requests for a 20 mph limit but it has been found in the past that these are difficult to get without very good grounds like previous accidents etc.
The basis of the website has been completed and can be viewed at www.bradfordpeverell.org and any constructive comments would be welcome.
It was then reported that a flood warden was still needed for the village plus a transport representative as Joyce Heath wished to stand down so a bus user is needed for this post.
Some work has been carried out on the 'village tree' opposite the Village Hall.
The lime has been trimmed with the object of raising the crown to 5.2 metres but unhappily the letter informing the council of this was received after the event so there was no consultation.
It was pointed out that the new footbridge over the Frome is very slippery when wet and so enquiries will be made as to responsibility and types of solution to the problem.
Various payments were authorised and the audit has been completed and signed off.
The next meeting is on Thursday November 4th.
