Giant Walking Sticks were seen in Bradford Peverell recently!
For several months many gardeners have been tending cabbage plants for the Giant Walking Stick Cabbage Competition which was the theme of this year's Gardening and Cookery Show.
On the day there were 19 chunky and lengthy stems lined up for judging all laid out on the grass by the Village Hall.
The winner was Doug Laycock with a whopping stem measuring 1.56 metres and it was taller than he was!
The children's competition was won by Alice and Olivia Kirkup with two fine specimens.
Other entries in the Show were slightly down on previous years mainly due to recent 'challenging' growing conditions but a great afternoon was had by all in the newly refurbished Village Hall where all the beautifully laid out entries of fruit vegetables flowers cakes and jams made a fine sight.
Betty Shattock-Broome won the Greenland Cup for a miniature arrangement and Roy Slade's produce stall did excellent business although this year, to everyone's surprise, he did not win a raffle prize!
Vic Davis rounded off the afternoon with the auction conducted in his usual inimitable style.
The Show was declared a great success and £200 was raised for Village Hall funds.
