VISITORS are expected to flock to the Dorset County Show this weekend.

Fine weather and a packed line-up of entertainment looks set to make the two-day extravaganza one of the best yet.

Tickets have been selling fast for the event, which takes place just outside Dorchester, and the September sunshine is expected to last into the weekend.

This year’s show promises to offer a mix of the traditional elements such as livestock classes, vegetable competitions and rural crafts, as well as more modern entertainment such as monster trucks, Dancing Diggers and Titan the giant robot.

Events in the main ring will also include mounted games, vintage cars and tractors, scurry racing and hound racing both tomorrow and Sunday.

There will be plenty on offer for canine enthusiasts in the Symonds and Sampson Countryside Ring such as the Dogs Trust parade, Exeter X Factors fly ball and ‘wolfman’ Shaun Ellis.

Tomorrow, talented pooches will also vie for honours in the Dog’s Got Talent Final.

There will be shows of speed in the Lakeside Ring with ferret racing, terrier racing and a gundog demo.

Entries have been pouring in for the agricultural classes and 450 trade stands will offer a vast array of products from baby wear and jewellery to tractors and designer kitchens.

Show secretary Sam McKenzie-Green said she was looking forward to a great weekend and welcoming thousands of visitors.

She said: “The weather looks to be fantastic, we couldn’t ask for better.

“Tickets have been selling amazingly – our ticket booth in South Street and a couple of tourist information centres have sold out and we’ve had to send more tickets. The trade stands are all sold and it’s all looking fantastic.

“We’ve also got the Dancing Diggers and Titan arriving today.”

Last year, 55,000 people turned out for the show and Sam is hoping this year’s event will be bigger.

She said: “All the indications are pointing that way.”

Tickets cost £10 in advance and £13 on the gate, with children under 16 going free.
