A FATHER is believed to have hanged himself after being questioned over the death of his baby son.

Car valeter Antony Goatley was found dead at home in Gallwey Road, Weymouth, following the death of his eight-week-old son Corbin.

Ambulances were called when Corbin was reported to be unwell at the family home where Mr Goatley also lived with his wife Ashley and three-year-old daughter.

Police confirmed that Corbin died later in hospital.

Mr Goatley, 26, was arrested in connection with his son’s death and released on police bail.

But officers later returned to his address in Wyke Regis when they received concerned calls about his welfare and Mr Goatley was found dead.

His death is not being treated as suspicious while Dorset Police are treating Corbin’s death as ‘unexplained’ and investigations continue.

Corbin’s body has not been released to the family for a funeral as tests are being carried out by specialists to identify the cause of death.

Former colleagues of Mr Goatley expressed their sympathy for his wife and daughter and described him as a ‘hard working, family man.’ Mr Goatley worked as a mobile car valeter for the Top Wash car cleaning company based in the Value House car park in Wyke Regis.

Lee Thomas, owner of Top Wash, was shocked at his death.

He said: “He must’ve had a lot on his mind to do that. It’s such a shame.”

Mr Thomas and his staff donated the £300 from their Christmas tip jar to Mr Goatley’s family to help pay for his funeral.

Mr Thomas added: “He was a nice bloke and a good worker.

“He was a family man and he was a good laugh.

“And he was also a quiet guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly.”

Mr Goatley previously worked as a valeter and polisher at the Wyke Regis garage.

One former colleague, who asked not to be named, said: “He was a nice guy and this has shocked everybody.

“He would do anything for his family and he loved his red Subaru car.”

A Dorset Police spokesman said that officers were called to Dorset County Hospital on July 4 and advised of Corbin Goatley’s ‘sudden death’.

He said: “Paramedics had previously attended an address in Weymouth shortly after midnight. The child was confirmed dead later that day.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and is being investigated by Dorset Police.

“A 26-year-old Weymouth man was arrested in connection with the incident shortly after Sunday July 4 and released on bail.”

He added: “We were then called on August 6 to a ‘concern for welfare call’.

“We attended an address along Gallwey Road and a man was found dead.”

A South Western Ambulance spokesman added: “We can confirm that we did attend a poorly baby at a house in Wyke Regis which was taken to hospital and subsequently died.

“And some time later we attended the same house to a male who was found dead.”

Inquests have been opened and adjourned into the deaths.
