FAMILIES and fun-seekers are set to enjoy the last kicks of the summer over the bank holiday weekend.

A host of events are lined up in Weymouth and Dorchester today, tomorrow and Monday.

Weymouth Harbour will be the venue for the Quayside Festival tomorrow and Monday.

The free event run by the Rendezvous Bar will feature 23 bands and DJs.

Rendezvous manager Keith Treggiden said: “With the weather hopefully clearing up we’re hoping for about 15,000 people over the two days.

“We’re really excited. It’s certainly going to be the best one yet.”

The Bang Goes The Theory BBC TV roadshow on Weymouth seafront starts today.

It runs from 11am to 6pm today, tomorrow and Monday, with live science shows every hour from noon.

Dragons will be taking over Weymouth on Sunday with the annual Dragon Boat Race.

The event runs from 9.45am to 4pm as 12 teams battle it out to be crowned this year’s champions.

Then, fireworks will explode over Weymouth Bay on Monday night to bring the weekend to a close.

A traditional French market will be in South Street, Dorchester, today and tomorrow.

Dorchester Town Council has lined up an array of musical talent for a free concert at Maumbury Rings on Monday, from 1.30pm to 10pm.

Youngsters will be entertained today at the Anonymous Festival at Maum-bury Rings.

The free event, organised by youngsters themselves, will offer a range of music as well as activities such as a climbing wall, a graffiti workshop, street dance and a silent rave.

Also on today is the Rethink Extravaganza, a day of family fun in the town’s Borough Gardens in aid of the mental health charity.

In Dorchester, the town’s second Love Parade, celebrating gay pride, will take place on Sunday from the town pump at 2pm.

There will be an after-party in Café Jagos on High West Street featuring bands and drag acts from London.

The Victoria Hotel in Maud Road is also hosting a cider and cheese festival with live music and family fun tomorrow to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Town crier Alistair Chisholm said it was ‘fabulous’ to see so much going on in the town and said the August Bank Holiday was becoming a highlight in Dorchester’s calendar.

He said: “This is the fourth year we have had this particular French market in the town and it’s becoming established.

“They have received a lot of support from various businesses and the town council.

“It also goes nicely with the Anonymous Festival today and on Monday you have got free music all afternoon at Maumbury Rings.”
