A WEYMOUTH woman was assaulted in broad daylight, prompting Dorset Police to appeal for witnesses.

The alleged domestic assault took place in Newstead Road near the Asda supermarket in Weymouth Town Centre on Saturday, August 14, at around 9.55am.

Police say that a 49-year-old man allegedly grabbed hold of a Weymouth woman. The 48-year-old Weymouth woman was uninjured.

The man was arrested on suspicion of assault but was later released on bail while police investigate the case.

Investigations Officer Sue Graham, from Dorset Police, said: “We understand that a number of people were around at the time of this incident and it’s possible that they may have seen what happened.

“In particular, we believe that a woman, possibly aged in her forties, stopped her car as she was driving out of the nearby Asda store.

“This woman left her vehicle and talked to the man and woman involved before getting back into her car and driving off. We understand that a First Choice bus stopped at a nearby bus stop.” Anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 01305 222222 of Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
