THE summer is set to go with a bang as an explosive science roadshow comes to Weymouth seafront.

BBC TV science show, Bang Goes The Theory, has taken to the road over the summer holidays, to bring science experiments to high streets up and down the UK.

The show mixes all aspects of science including cosmology, zoology and medicine with hands-on experiments to test, stretch and explode science live on stage.

The show has already been to Edinburgh, Nottingham, London and Plymouth. Next stop will be Weymouth.

Situated on the seafront opposite East Street, the roadshow will take up residence for the bank holiday weekend from Saturday, August 28, to Monday, August 30.

Entry is free and runs every day from 11am to 6pm. There will be live 30-minute science shows every hour from noon.

Budding science boffins will be able to put the experts to the test in a series of question and answer sessions at 5pm everyday and there will also be a hands-on ‘Bang Interactive Area’ where families can try out their own experiments.

The scientists promise ‘plenty of opportunity to get stuck in and lots of explosions.’ Bang goes the theory presenter Dallas Campbell, said: “The show is for anyone who is remotely curious about life, the Universe and pretty much everything.

“It’s about making science fascinating and fun.”

Bang presenter, Jem Stansfield said that the road show had had a good reception across the UK this summer.

He said: “It’s fantastic that so many people have come to see us already.

“Everyone who comes to the roadshow certainly seems to have a very good time and people have often travelled a long way.”

He added: “The great thing is that kids want to come and parents feel they have found something that their kids are really into.

“They particularly like our live shows”.

Tourism spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, Councillor Roger Allen said he was looking forward to the roadshow.

He said: “We welcome the Bang Goes The Theory Roadshow to the borough, which I am sure will enhance the diverse entertainment available over the weekend to both residents and visitors alike.” For more information visit www.bbc.co.uk/bang/roadshow
