Recently, in the rain, Melcombe Regis Rotary Club had a street collection outside Debenhams in aid of ‘Shelterbox’ the Rotary Charity which sends Shelterboxes to disaster areas.

The people of Weymouth and our summer visitors were extremely generous and donated nearly £1,000, which enabled us to pay for two Shelterboxes to be sent to Pakistan.

We spoke to many people that day and a lot of them said that they were wary of giving money to some charities for fear that their donation will be swallowed up in ‘administration’ or consultants’ fees but that they were happy to give their cash to Rotary Shelterbox because of our reputation.

In fact, one gentleman came to my house the following day, having found my address and gave me a £25 cheque for Shelterbox.

With this in mind, if any of your readers wish to donate to Rotary Shelterbox, I will be happy to accept their donation by cheque made out to Shelterbox and sent to Ian Brooke, 14 Mead Road, Southill, Weymouth, DT4 9SE.

Anyone interested in having a look at a Shelterbox and its contents can see one on The Esplanade during our Rotary Dragon Boat Races on Sunday, August 29, and the box is also available for display to schools, businesses and other organisations.

Just email ian@brookephoto.co.uk Further information about Shelterbox can be found on shelterbox.org To those who have already donated, thank you. To those who have not yet considered it, please do, people are dying for want of shelter.
